Some of John's Motivational
Speeches:
Discover a new zest for challenge
Institute of Directors, Monday 13th October 2008
"Meet a man with an exceptional talent for
motivation who has devoted his life to studying and developing others: as a
senior officer in the Metropolitan Police, John Peck developed their
Management Strategy and ran Advance Leadership Programmes. Since leaving, he
founded the First Ascent Consultancy Group and, more recently, Executive
Stretch Ltd—whose mission is “to provide a unique, individually crafted
personal development programme set in a total wilderness environment”. John
has an MPhil in Leadership & Organizational Behaviour and numbers among the
personal challenges he has tackled rowing the Atlantic and the Marathon des
Sables"
Packing them in at the Institute of Directors
There was standing room only recently at the IoD Headquarters in London, as
John Peck held the audience spellbound whilst talking about his global
adventures. As lively as ever on his feet, John talked of the learnings
extracted from such daring do’s as Jungle exploration, Saharan
ultra-marathons, Himalayan first ascents and a little row across the
Atlantic!
The multi media show was themed around maximizing potential and covered the
importance of goal setting, exploring options, understanding your
environment and sometimes ‘taking a deep breath.’ Canapés and a glass or two
of wine added to a wonderful setting and a very entertaining yet thought
provoking presentation.
Said one of the guests - Marketing Director Steve Garcia
‘I really enjoyed your talk about the "Adventure" of running a business and
thought your strategies for success were very realistic and practical in the
current economic climate. I have been to many talks about business success
and must say that yours was the most inspirational’
"All men dream: but not equally. Those
who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the
day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are
dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make
it possible." -
T.E. Lawrence
What do you do with your dreams when you wake up?
How dangerous could it be if your dreams came true for you and
for those whom you lead?
This is aimed at the senior entrepreneurs and movers and
shaker in the business who know their dreams and want to share
them with others.
It will help them bring their dreams alive for themselves and
for others in your business.
This is what great leaders do.
It will inspire people at all levels to sign up for the
corporate adventure live the vision.
This is the time for your people to get out and take on the
challenge. You have done the thinking. You know where you are
going. This is the time to get your flag to heights that nobody
would have dreamed off before.
Weathering The Storm – How To Survive and Thrive in tough
environments
This is all about facing the challenge when the going gets
tough.
It is also about achieving the apparently insurmountable.
What are the secrets that will enable your business and its
leaders to reach way beyond the normal territory into areas that
would make most people’s hair stand on end.
It is targeted towards getting a spirit across the
organisation where people get excited about risk and get
passionate about winning. It is also about keeping your focus as a
leader when all those about you are losing their own.
It will give them a toolkit to make the journey safer and
speed them towards a safe passage through the dangerous waters.
Your team now knows where they want to go. All they need is
the confidence to get there. The reality is that there will always
be stormy waters ahead. This will provide them with a corporate
life belt to see them safely across their passage.
Finding ‘The Ledge Beyond The Edge’ – A Field guide To Modern
Leadership
Do you ever feel not quite as brave as a leader as other
people might think you are? Do you sometimes feel on the tipping
point – way out of your comfort zone?
Do you wonder what is over the edge, but nervous about
reaching over to look? Imagine how those who are following might
feel.
Staying alive and keeping others with you alive is about
staying brave even when you bravery is waning. It is about
providing people whom you lead – your staff, your customers and
your suppliers - with hope and confidence in you - even when you
don’t always know quite where you are going. It is about
safeguarding them under pressure.
Leadership in these turbulent times is not about spouting
lofty long term visions and expecting people to believe you. It is
about inspiring people to follow you wherever you lead them – just
because of who you are and how they can trust you.
This is aimed at those leaders who are up for the challenge
but who now need the tool kit to get them safely to their
destination.
It will give them the confidence to reach out to places your
competitors wouldn’t dream of going.
Remember If you are not frightened sometimes, you are not
taking your role as a business leader seriously.
This is the road map for corporate adventures that the people
you are leading need to see now, if you are to move with
confidence to the place where success is waiting.
What’s it like up there? - Personal conquests at the Corporate
Rock face
Are you on our own - looking up? Do you know the next move?
What about the people way down there looking up at you
wondering where you are going?
Maybe it is time to put some steps in place.
If you are the lynchpin for them, how are you going to take
these brave fellow adventurers with you?
This is a call to senior leaders to look at their role
seriously and change their personal conquest into a collective
one.
It will help fuel up a strategy for change that will have real
meaning for all who follow. It will build confidence in your team
and give them the wherewithal to win the hearts and minds of those
they lead.
It will provide a powerful call to arms for all who are on
this journey with you will inspire belief that the summit is
within their grasp.
